  • The Recipe for a Safe Thanksgiving
There is an unfortunate national trend around the holidays. The National Fire Protection Agency reports that there are four times as more home fires on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. The thing that fire professionals want you to know is that these fires are avoidable- one third of Thanksgiving home fire are due to unattended stovetop cooking or frying.
Lloyd Baker Injury Attorneys wants to make sure you stay safe during the holidays and always. To help you enjoy Thanksgiving safely, make sure you follow these safety tips:
    • Always be sure you have working smoke alarms
    • Have a fire extinguisher handy
    • Never leave a stovetop unattended while cooking food. You may think that because you set a timer that you are being safe, but the reality is you should always have eyes on your stovetop when you are cooking, as spillovers, splatters and burning can occur quickly
    • Keep children and pets away from the cooking area
    • Keep anything that can catch fire – pot holders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, food packaging, and towels or curtains—away from the stove, oven or any other appliance in the kitchen that generates heat
    • Clean cooking surfaces on a regular basis to prevent grease buildup.
    • Always check the kitchen before going to bed or leaving the home to make sure all stoves, ovens, and small appliances are turned off

Equally as important as these cooking tips is to keep your appliances in good shape to prevent them from sparking a fire.

    • Anything damaged or that has worn cords should be replaced immediately. Damaged appliances can easily cause an electrical shock or fire

Lloyd Baker Injury Attorneys wishes you and your loved ones a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
